Dallin and Luke have been working on this 3D train puzzle for about a year. They finally finished it at the beginning of the month and Luke was beyond proud. It was good bonding time for them.
Caleb started preschool! He is going to the same school as Luke and loving it. He was fearless, walking in and sitting at his little table. He even tried to comfort other classmates who were a little more shy.
We attended the annual Utah Down Syndrome Foundation Buddy Walk. It was the first one we have been to since Caleb was just a few months old. This year, they held it at the Real Salt Lake Rio Tinto Stadium, which was a real treat to get to be a such a fun venue. They had the junior Real team, which includes individuals with special needs. We talked to the coaches who informed us that the team is truly a team and they travel all over the nation, playing games throughout the season, forming friendships and learning form each other. It was so awesome to see inclusion being displayed in such a wonderful way. Caleb walked the entire walk, even after running around playing for 2 hours. Determined little bug.
We convinced Dallin to play hookie one day to go bowling with us up in Layton. Luke has been asking to go bowling for months, so he was over the moon that we finally went. It was a fun day of family time.
We went to the Watts' for dinner one evening, since we had not spent time with them in awhile and we all missed each other. They truly became family in those months we were living in McCammon and they would let us stay with them when we were in Utah for appointments and what not. The boys loved playing in the backyard with Sarah while Larry roped Dallin into picking clovers out of the lawn.
Luke started Ninja class! We gave him a few activities to choose from, showed him what each looked like (thank you, Youtube) and he chose tumbling. We did a trial class of tumbling at the local gym, which he enjoyed, but then he saw the ninjas in the adjacent gym. The rest is history! He has loved every class and counts the days to the next class the minute he gets home.
Our friends, the Freemans, were in town for a wedding, so we all got together with the Smathers and hiked Neff's Canyon. It was so fun seeing all of our littles running around together seeing as it used to just be a bunch of newly weds hanging out. By the way, Neff's Canyon is glorious. A little gym in the heart of Salt Lake.
In an attempt to catch the swiftly passing Fall colors (thank you, dry, dry summer), we went to Farmington Canyon for a little hike. Luke had just been to a birthday party and insisted on wearing his Nerf-fighting gear he got as a party favor on the hike. Don't know if it was very comfortable, but at least he felt like he could protect us. There were not many fall colors, but it felt good to get out and enjoy a little peace and quiet away from the business of the city.
For conference weekend, we went up to McCammon. Grandpa was the adult of choice for Caleb to terrorize, which Dallin and I didn't mind having a break from his constant fun-loving attacks. I'm not sure grandpa got much out of conference, but that is why they record them and have them easily accessible. We played with constructs, completed a puzzle, Luke coached grandpa through the fixing of some electronics, learned about 2 hour church starting January 2019 (I may have audibly whooped at that announcement), and were spiritually fed.
Nana got Luke a subscription box to Kiwi Crates for his birthday. He gets so excited every time one of those boxes shows up on our door step. He doesn't wait more than 5 minutes to open it up and dig in to the fun inside. They are perfect for his little scientific mind!
One weekend in October brought snow to the hills. Not able to wait for the snow to come in just a few weeks, Dallin and the boys ventured up Farmington Canyon again to find snow. They found a little and it was confirmed that Caleb still does not like the cold.
Uncle Danny came out for a weekend before going elk hunting with grandpa. We took him to the pumpkin patch and let him enjoy our circus. The boys made sure he stayed active with chasing them through the hay bale maze, wrestling matches, hikes, book reading galore and playing. When Loel, Hayley and Roo came out, grandma treated them to Frightmares at Lagoon, which they all said was boring...they would have definitely laughed if I went for them to witness the scaredy cat I truly am...
We had the annual Malmstrom-Lehmitz Halloween party, to which we made the debut of Luke's BB8 costume; he sure does like to challenge our artistic abilities with his costume requests! We were quite proud of our month long joint effort final project. Caleb was Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc and he could not have been more excited to run around as one of his favorite characters of all time.
The following weekend, we got together with the Lehmitz clan to celebrate grandpa Glen Green's 100th birthday. It was a nice evening of soup, fire pit, running around and story telling.
Trunk-or-treats and Halloween along with leaf jumping wrapped up our October. The boys loved trick-or-treating (minus the tragic fall that cracked BB8 wide open) and now have candy coming out of their ears.
