We started out June with a visit from aunt Terri. She was such a big help! She entertained the boys and kept the house running while Aida and I continued to figure out breastfeeding and such. She also got some Aida snuggles. After our month of strep, it felt so good to enjoy summer with aunt Terri!
Caleb started swim lessons with a small family owned company, Hunsaker Swimming. They teach the kiddos to turn and float on their backs right away, which I LOVE for Caleb since he sometimes overestimates his ability to swim...
He did so good in just the week that he went to them. He was floating almost independently by Thursday and no long fought them to flip over. It was amazing to see the progress he made in each 20 minutes session. Now, to keep up on what he learned.
Once Terri left, we had to keep the boys somewhat busy. Luke rediscovered his at home experiment book, so we tried a few more from that, including this colored foam. It was so easy to make and entertained them for a good 45 minutes. That might not seem like a long time, but with 2 very busy boys, it is an eternity! It turned into puddle play and wet chalk drawings on the asphalt before long, which I was completely fine with on the hot summer day. That extended the time they were kept busy to over an hour.
We also got another visit from Danny and Lauren. While they were here, we had a picnic with Jared, Haley, Myles, Lucy and grandma and grandpa Green. It was such a relaxing afternoon at Smoot Park, playing in the shade of big trees, by the creek. The boys brought some of their new birthday toys, including their t-ball set and soccer net. All kiddos were entertained, including the big kid adults! We also took them to Monkey-Wrench ice cream, which is all dairy free ice cream. All were pleasantly surprised by the yumminess of this place! We were not disappointed.
We wrapped up their visit with a little hike up Mueller Park. The tee-pees were still deconstructed, but getting out and moving felt so good!
Papa came for a visit over Father's day weekend, which meant he also got to celebrate Luke's birthday with us. On Friday, we attempted to see the burn-out for the annual car show, but I had major post-partum brain and misread where and how it would happen. We ended up eating sno-cones and cotton candy on a curb for a good 25 minutes, waiting for it to start, before I realized my mistake. Oh well, it was still fun and we saw all the cars the next day at the actual car show. The rest of the weekend was fun, filled with presents, fun and baby snuggles. Papa's duck sounds once again succeeded in making babies giggle.
To celebrate/recover from having a second round of strep, we ran away on a spontaneous road trip to California for a week. Dallin used his last week of paternity leave, and we played in Napa for a few days before making our way down to SLO for a few days. Both visits were good for our souls.
Aida was not a fan of the carseat after about 2 hours, which encouraged us to stop every 2 hours for a little stretch and snuggle for all. The boys loved having Augie as their travel companion in the backseat and Luke was completely content with his new birthday gift of headphones and my old ipod mini with some of his favorite songs loaded on to it.
In Napa, we hung out with nana at Farmer's Market, the movies, playing games, Rutherford Grill, Taylor's Refresher and fresh sunshine during walks to parks and the like.
Danny and Lauren for brave enough to host us and were the best hosts we could ask for. They entertained the boys with hoses and gardening in between Farmer's Market, beach visits (Caleb loved the sand; Luke loved the waves) and family dinners. Danny took them for rides in his jeep (Caleb now spots jeeps everywhere we go and wants to go for a ride in them) and we ran the puppies tired every day.
