The past couple of weeks have been full of Dallin finishing up his last few classes at LDS Business College, packing boxes for the move on August 27th and the outdoors. The outdoors part all started with a week theme on "Wilderness 101" for my little guys. We taught them all about the wilderness including what you need when you go camping, how even the cute wild animals are dangerous (which they asked, "Even moose and tigers?" We still did not get them to differentiate between forest wild animals and jungle wild animals...) and a big campout at the end of the week which was a blast. They all brought their sleeping bags, flashlights and, of course, sheets to make forts! We turned our classroom into one big tent with a fake campfire, real s'mores, trying on a backpacking pack which made one child fall on his back then proceed to wiggle side to side in an effort to get up, just like a turtle, and even some campfire stories about giant purple gorillas... All who participated, LOVED it.

Anyway, that combined with a game night with our cousins, Tiffany and Will, who are avid hikers, got us in the mood to start hiking. We realized that with the rocky mountains literally 20 minutes away, we are surrounded by a bazillion hiking trails that we should completely take advantage of before winter starts creeping up on us. So, on Saturday we woke up bright an early and went up to Big Cottonwood Canyon and hiked "Silver Lake Trail" which consisted of a four mile, round trip hike that took us by three lakes. It was a little hike to start us amateurs out, but gave us motivation to keep hiking (as long as we bring bug spray next time. They ate me alive!).

We also made it to the Salt Lake County fair again this year. It is a little fair, but has the animals, food, and the "Hypno Hick." We watched him briefly last year, but were able to watch the whole show this time. Let me tell you, it was worth it. At one point, he had one guy being Justin Beiber (quite perfectly I might add) with back up dancers followed by a larger man belly-flopping on the stage when told he was a snowman melting. Good stuff.

Anyway, on our way back to our car, all around us the sky had a different, breathtaking view. It was magnificent. All three of these were taken from the same sidewalk.
