Crash Course of Life with Green's

I wonder why I can't get much done each day, then I kiss my boys goodnight, sit on the couch and realized it was the first time I had really sat down all day. Then, I know what happened to my day! Although, it all still feels like a blur.

Outside of birthday celebrations, June and July were filled with sunshine, fans, squirt-guns and visitors. Hold on tight; It's another long post!

We started July off with a visit from mama B. She got into town just in time for the Fourth of July. We started the holiday off with some firework fun with our neighbors/good friends the Evans. Their little boy, Parker is just a few months younger than Luke and they are Best Friends Forever! However, they could not be more opposite. The two of them crack us up with how different they are, but the pure joy and excitement they have when they see each other NEVER tires. They also have a little girl who is two months younger than Caleb. We just love them.

The morning of the Fourth, we strolled a block up the street to claim our seats at the Parade. It was a nice cool 95 degrees...SO. HOT! Sitting, sweating in the sun while watching the parade participants drive by throwing candy to all the wrong places reminded us that we are not huge parade goers. Sorry if that offends anyone and makes us un-American, but it's the truth! We did get a Mrs. Cavanuagh's chocolate after I had the boys literally chase after the truck to get one. You gotta do what you gotta do!

That night, we strolled up to Davis High to watch a fantastic fireworks show. This is the same place we went last year and were not disappointed. It was nice to have us all together and not have to hurry off to the hospital after the show, like we did last year! Luke and Caleb both did great with the noise and loved watching the sky light up with color.

The rest of the week with nana was filled with adventure! We went swimming at the Farmington City pool, which Luke took a good 30 minutes before he would get his swim trunks wet. Okay, so we ended up just throwing him to Dallin in the deeper part of the pool because he was being a little silly about it. Rip the band-aid off, right?! We might be bad parents. Caleb, however, was ready to swim right in to the deep end. He had the time of his life in that pool! When we came home, I immediately signed Luke up for swim lessons...

While here, my mom made the plunge and chopped off her hair! I took her to my lady who does mine because she is honestly SO SO good at pixie cuts. I don't know what I'll do if we move or she moves. We have so much fun with my hair trying different pixie cuts, every one of them looking fabulous because she is just amazing at them! Anyway, I think my mom was a little nervous, not a huge fan at first, but I think she looks amazing. Bad documenter over here didn't get an after photo. Only the first chop. Trust me though, she looks gorgeous.

 We took nana on our new favorite hike, North Canyon Trail. It is filled with shade, beautiful foliage, not super busy and, my main reason for loving it, NO SNAKES! Luke on hikes likes to lead the pack, climbing everywhere and on everything, so snakes on and off the trail make me nervous. We had attempted a new hike first only to have a nice rattling serenade from the bushes. We quickly returned to our car to make our way to North Canyon Trail. Luke got perfectly dirty as he literally would race ahead then slide on his belly down the trail. He claims he was race car "Turning a hard corner." I don't know. He had fun and was tired after which are signs of a successful hike.

This picture cracks me up. Nana: "Hi Caleb!" Caleb: "Why does my mom keep brining strangers into our house." He is a little weary around people that are not mom, dad or Luke.

Luke went through this phase where he would nap for about an hour then come out and fall asleep on me for another hour. It was nice to have the snuggles.

We all got to go bowling for Luke's first time while Nana was here. He was more excited about the car arcade game and the music, but he also did pretty good pushing that ball down his little cheater ramp.

For Dallin's big Dirty-30 birthday celebration, we went camping by Flaming Gorge with the Evans and grandma and grandpa Green. It was so perfect just letting the boys run around, getting dirty, not worrying about how loud or wild they were being. The campsite was gorgeous. The fishing, however, was a total flop. That was one of the main reasons we wanted to go camping was so Dallin could fish. Oh well. I think he had fun! We spent most of Saturday just exploring, building fires, eating, "fishing" and playing games. Sunday we broke down camp, went on a little hike, then made the drive home. We attempted to stop at Flaming Gorge, but ended up on the boring side and didn't feel like making a 2 hour drive in the opposite direction to see the awesome side. Either way, the drive was breathtaking! Such an amazing area.

The boys did great sleeping (minus the 2am poop wake-up from Caleb which led to a little scare that Bryson was not back from a drive with Elle that he had left on about 4 hours prior. We found them safe and sound soon after). I think Luke was just stoked to sleep in sleeping bags, on the air mattress WITH mom and dad. Could life get any better?!

On the actual day of his birthday, Dallin just requested a water fight and cake. So, we had a water fight and carrot cake.

Dallin got his company's suite tickets to the Salt Lake Real soccer game. Both of us had never been to a professional soccer game, not being huge soccer fans. HOWEVER, before a few of our readers swear to never talk to us again (I'm talkin' to you, Jensens!), this game changed our feelings. We had SO much fun! One of his co-workers that was there used to play for Real years ago, so we had him teaching us all that was going, as well some juicy information about the coaches, refs, etc. We also got insanely spoiled in the suite with yummy food, the dessert cart and drinks galore. Thank you to Auntie Lexi for watching our boys while we got to enjoy a night out. Clearlink, you know how to spoil your employees!

Dallin and I have been trying to alternate taking Luke on mommy-Luke dates or daddy-Luke dates a couple times a month, just to give him that one-on-one time because he was doing so many silly things to try and get attention. We think it has really been helping and he gets so excited for them! For their first date, Dallin took him to ride the go-carts at Boondocks (talk about setting the bar high!), then I took him to the library, and Dallin took him on the ferris wheel at Scheel's. We really have a lot of fun just hanging out, chatting and getting to spend some chill time with him, while the other parent gets to give Caleb some one-on-one time, as well. It's a win-win!

There they are! Luke LOVED it. Surprisingly.

Remember how I signed Luke up for swim lessons? Yeah. That was stressful. The first week, he was a wild man, terrified of doing anything but bobbing in the water. Pretty sure his swim instructor wanted to quit on the spot. However, with some bribing, talking to his swim instructor and prayers, the second week went beautifully! He even let her do back floats with him, got the water up to his chin and was just MUCH more comfortable in the water. Still won't put his face in the water willingly, but we'll take what we can get with this strong-willed little boy of ours! The WHOLE time, Caleb was itching to just jump in and have the time of his life.

We took a couple of McCammon trips, one with all of us, one just the boys before Dallin left for a 4 day backpacking trip in Wyoming with the Scouts. We sure love living close enough to make a quick trip up to be free on the farm! 

When we all went up, grandpa exhausted the boys by having them help in laying sprinkler pipe. We also got to have a little Green family reunion which is always fun getting to know more family.

When just the boys went up, they got to search for grandma and grandpa's Christmas tree and mark it so that they can go back and easily cut it down when the season comes. On their way back, they stumbled upon Soda Springs, which happens to be a geyser. How cool is that!?
