April: Quarantine, Easter and Disney

Month one of "Stay safe, stay home." My introverted self kind of loved it. I loved having Dallin home, getting to work out with him each day, getting to divvy up "Home schooling" with him and our daily walks to get out of the house. The kiddos really did well with the change, although there were moments of high anxiety from Lukey-boy, including one on the way to pick up groceries when he expressed, "I'm just really mad at Corona!", we worked through them and focused on all the good that was coming from this time to slow down and reconnect.

The neighborhood decided to do an alphabet scavenger hunt, where multiple people throughout the neighborhood displayed a letter or number somewhere and we would try to find them all on our walks. We couldn't find 8 letters, but called it a win anyway. Can you spot our "Z" and a baby Aida?

When we really needed a change of pace, we would drive. Didn't matter where we went, we would just drive. One day, we attempted to drive the Mirror Lake Loop, but it was April and it was still snow packed. It was still a good getaway and felt good to get to enjoy a scenery different than our lovely Centerville.

For Easter, we enjoyed a lowkey day, trying to uphold as many traditions as we could. We made tri-tip sandwiches, dyed eggs (including the traditional way of boiling them in onion skins which creates a gorgeous burgundy colored egg), and had a visit from the Easter bunny. We also started a new tradition of having a little activity that focuses on a different person that was involved each day of the week leading up to Easter Sunday. It was an easy, beautiful way to bring the focus of Easter back to our Savior.

In an effort to make things a little fun since we had to cancel our trip to California and Legoland, we did Disneyland-home edition. Each week, we picked a different land from Disneyland to "visit," meaning we made food from that land (thank you, Brad, for being our Disney food guru), watched a movie that correlated with the land and went on a virtual ride from the land. The kiddo's seemed to really enjoy it and looked forward to it every week. Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean were Caleb's favorite rides and the beignets were Luke's favorite treat.

We also had virtual date nights with friends from Utah, Arizona and Colorado. We got creative with playing Scattergories via Zoom and enjoyed evenings "Out," connecting with our loved ones from all over.

We wrapped up the month celebrating Aida's first birthday! Perfect way to wrap up our first month of quarantine. She is such an amazing addition to our family. April, you have been new and exciting and stressful and wonderful. You brought us lots of bugs, a super bright full moon that made it look like daytime at midnight, impressive Lego creations by Luke, CHEAP gas, curbside pick-up everything and the new accessory gracing everyone's faces in the form of a mask in an attempt to slow the spread of the virus.

Luke attended a virtual paint night where he got to create a space painting. He was so engaged the entire 2 hours and is so proud of his creation. See? You can find all the bad or you can focus on the new opportunities this pandemic has created for us.

We are hoping to take some lessons we have learned from how nice it is to slow down and focus on our family once things open up.
