May Happenings

Here is the 34 week bump. Spudnik is still growing big, yoga pants and maxis are my best friend, Luke thinks it is hilarious when he sees my belly move, or as he calls it "Baby brother dancing," and we still have no idea what we are going to name the kid.
Luke had to show off his belly, too

We started the month out by planting our garden since the weather had been so gorgeous. The boys worked hard at prepping the dirt; well, Dallin worked hard. Luke preferred to feel the dirt on his toes while eating left over olives and oranges he stole from dinner in the strainer. I'm sure his moral support provided Dallin the motivation he needed to mix in all the smelly compost.

The next week was filled with rain, rain and more rain. I honestly felt I was in Napa during winter, even though this year they got nothing. At one point, we called our landlord to give them a head's up because the gutters were almost flooding onto the lawn. It was quite exciting. The green hills, trees and grass sure are pretty, but I think it was a little too much water for our baby garden. Keeping our fingers crossed they powered through!

One grey, rainy Saturday, Dallin decided to treat us to the Draper Aquarium. It was PACKED, and Luke was a little wild, but it was fun to get out, try something new and see our sea creature friends. Dallin and I also realized we are not only food snobs, we are also zoo/aquarium snobs. When you've see the best like the San Diego Zoo and the Monterey Bay Aquarium, it kind of ruins the rest...

We got to watch the little boy of our friend's from California while they were here for a wedding. We always say that he and Spud would be such good friends because their personalities seem so similar. They were like two peas in a pod, riding cars, looking out the window at cars, building, climbing and jumping. Luke still asks to play with "Nafan."

I promise he had a good time. Pay no mind to my child breaking the picture frame like a hooligan...
We decided to get Luke used to the idea of the potty, starting to get him excited for when we feel he is actually ready for underwear, so we got him a little potty. He loves to sit on it, even if he doesn't go, sing the "Tinkle, tinkle" song, made up by yours truly, (I'll teach it to whomever is intrigued), and gets so proud when he does actually pee. He usually only pees in it right before bath-time when he is completely naked and the water is running and actually had a poo while I was in California. He now will sit and push with all his might to try and get another one out. Poor kid.

Just like daddy
For my birthday/Mother's day (we kind of combine them since they are always so close together), we were pretty low key. Dallin and Luke let me have a day out which is always a nice present to not have a into everything toddler, whom I love dearly but can be tiring, by my side. We then had a nice get together with some friends where we had Kebabs, hot dogs, ice cream cake AND chocolate cake from scratch made by dear Dallin. It was perfect.

Got mistaken for a sister missionary that talked in church that day. Made me giggle since I have this giant belly!
Over Memorial Day weekend, I got to go to California for Kevan's wedding. As some of you might remember, in college there was a group of us from freshman year all the way through senior that consisted of six friends. We did EVERYTHING together and were dubbed the "K's" because five of our names out of the six started with the letter "K." The sixth started with a "J," but we gave him a nickname with a "K." Anyway, Kevan is the last of us to get married, which is always an occasion to have a reunion. It was a quick, but wonderful little trip to celebrate, dance the night away and get to spend time with such good friends. There may have even been a much anticipated baby belly bump with one of the K's sisters and myself.

While I was gone, Dallin got to play Mr. Mom for the weekend. They went on walks, got snow cones, visited family gravesides with family, watched movies and didn't miss mom at all! Such a great daddy and hubby we have.
Mmmm snow cones

One of the best parts of summer in Utah!
When I got back, we joined one of Dallin's coworkers who lives down the road from us for a nice, relaxing Memorial Day BBQ. With a sandbox, trampoline, bikes, trucks, children, a wagon and a dog, Luke was in heaven! It was a perfect ending to the long weekend.

There is a lot of road construction around our neighborhood right now, which makes for one very happy Spud. The other night on our walk, we came across this front loader, which is tied with the wrecking ball for favorite construction truck. Let's just say, he was beyond excited. We explored for a good 15 minutes before prying him away.

Discovering earphones for the first time. It was qutie exciting to realize there was music in them!
For about a week between scorching hot weather and cold rainstorms, we had our window fan in the living room, under a chair. Luke had left it alone all week, until one day I checked on him while making dinner and he comes to me holding his finger, looking a little confused, saying "What happen finger?" When I looked at his finger, it was dripping blood. We calmly went and washed it up and got a band-aid; his very first band aid, mind you. It was only then that he decided this was a traumatic experience and needed to have me hold him constantly. Dinner got put on hold while we snuggled and watched Kung-Fu Panda. He just sat there the whole time, holding his hand out like he had lost a limb, whimpering every now and then. I have to say I loved the snuggles, but giggled a bit at how dramatic he was. At dinner, he had a few melt downs because he believed his injury made it so that he could not use his left and dominate hand to eat. It was quite devastating. Do not fret, though, the next morning he let us take off the band-aid and was completely fine.

The face I got from the time we put on the band-aid until we put him to bed

The injury
While hanging some new shelves, Luke was a big helper putting tape where we thought the shelves should go. When finished, he decided he needed a mustache. Guys, this kid is honestly such a funny kid.

We love you all and hope you are enjoying the beginnings of summer!

  1. Oh my gosh, I loved this post! So many gems!
Especially the pictures of Nathan and Luke! These two just have to live close to each other some day! Thanks again for watching him. You were a lifesaver!
    also,
-Nathan is always trying to put his fingers in our large industrial-ish fan. Maybe that needs to be put away til he gets older....your experience freaked me out!
-that picture of Dallin and Luke eating snow cones! so good.
-THAT BELLY PICTURE! You are so far along! Can you believe it?! I love that Luke wanted to show his belly in the picture too. So crazy, you are going to be a mother of two. Glad you can do it first so that when it happens for us you can give me all of the tips!
